Technical Leader/Signal Integrity San Jose, CA

The successful candidate will be a member of the Transceiver Module Group, TMG, Engineering team responsible for MSA compliant optical and copper pluggable transceiver modules. The objectives of the team are to provide standardization of transceiver-based host board implementation across Business Units (BUs), maintain all Cisco form factor specs (X2, XFP, SFP+, etc.) and participate in new transceiver technology investigation. Candidate will be responsible for providing signal integrity technical consultation and leadership in the design and development efforts of pluggable transceiver and/or its respective host cards.
Responsibilities:
  • Providing SI technical guidance to developing BU design teams in standardization of host card transceiver implementation

  • Performing system level signal integrity and timing analysis on transceiver/host card interfaces

  • Participate in SI study and analysis of transceiver and host card interfaces via modeling and simulations

  • Developing the transceiver technical design guidelines and criteria to aid design teams for the host card development

  • Proposing new optical/copper transceiver concepts and conducting technology evaluation

  • Drafting and responsible for Cisco specific transceiver specifications

  • Required Skills/Experience:
  • Experience in high speed digital bus simulations and analysis in the field of Signal Integrity

  • Proficient with board level reflection, xtalk, ground bounce, bypassing techniques for power/ground noise reduction and termination techniques for reflection noise control

  • Proficient with 2-D/3-D CAD tools, Hspice, Matlab, SpecctraQuest etc

  • Proficient in the lab with oscilloscopes, Time Domain Reflectometers, Vector Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers, and skew/jitter/phase noise measurements

  • Familiar with timing (setup/hold board timing analysis) and clocking designs

  • Familiarity with optical networking terminology, pluggable transceiver modules, lasers, laser-optics, electro-optics, electronics or related technical field

  • Good lab debugging skills

  • Ability to provide technical leadership on the design and development of optical transceiver with the supplier and the development teams

  • Typically requires BSEE/CS or equivalent with 10+ years relevant experience in internetworking technologies and applications. Master and a PHD would be a plus

    Software Test Engineer, San Jose

    The candidate will

    • Focus on feature testing on Catalyst 4500 family of switches.
    • Will apply knowledge of L2/L3 protocols to understand newer protocols/features.
    • Participate in feature design review, functional spec. review.
    • Write test plans which define the strategy and test cases for new productfeatures and subsequently execute those tests, investigate test failures and log product defects.
    • Review other test plans and provide required feedback.
    • Use software enginering skills to review other engineers scripts for automation.
    • Will have complete ownership of multiple features and will interface with different teams such as TMEs/Interoperability testing team/System testingteam and assist them in resolving their issues.
    • Job requires cross-functional interaction with software, hardware and ASIC engineering groups.
    • Self-motivated team players with strong communication skills (written and verbal) are encouraged to apply.

    Skills Needed

    • Thorough knowledge and experience in layer 2 and layer 3 networking protocols, including hands-on experience configuring switches and routers.
    • Hands-on experience testing Cisco switches or routers.
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with different test, development, and support groups.
    • Must be able to handle multiple tasks at once and work independently with minimal managerial oversight.
